Riding the Range

Woke up this morning (Wednesday I think) to a crisp 44 degrees but had managed to stay warm during the night. It was strange to see my breath in August as I crawled out of the tent. When we packed up and started to pull out, that herd of bison was on the road and field right where you enter the campgrounds! New neighbors.

Today is all about crossing the prairie. We are traveling the 400 miles it takes to get from ND to the Bozeman area in MID Montana. Yep, Montana is one BIG state. We'll camp for the night (am expecting another chilly one) and be up bright and early for our next mission, given to us by Glenda Williams. At 7:30 tomorrow morning we will be at the Broken Hart Ranch for the first half of our Saddle and Paddle day. We ride horses up into the mountains in the morning and whitewater raft on the Gallatin River in the afternoon. This is the river from one of my favorite films "A River Runs Through It". Thankfully they provide wetsuits and booties!

Since I have no pictures to share today, let me take time for a quick summary report. We have completed one full week of our journey and have 4 states down of the 17. Donnie and I have had nonstop togetherness and are continuing to enjoy one another's company and we still really like each other. Life has become very simple. Meals are light, quick, and fresh. I think I have actually lost weight! "Fixing" my hair in the mornings amounts to wetting it with a spray bottle and brushing down the pillow induced cowlicks. Decisions about what to wear take almost no time and technology access is helping me not to miss my kids and friends too much. So far, so perfect!
